Arsenal and Everton square off in the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore tonight with both teams choosing to field strong sides as they look to begin their season with a trophy.
Arsenal handed summer signing Petr Cech his first start in goal, while also opting to field a young looking defence with Calum Chambers partnering Laurent Koscielny at centre-back, while Hector Bellerin and Kieran Gibbs started on either side of them. Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey slotted into midfield while Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott operated behind Olivier Giroud in a very formidable front line. Wilshere was the only player retained from the starting eleven from the game against Singapore on Wednesday.
Everton meanwhile opted to make the odd changes to their side, though they did pick a number of players who got a run out in midweek. Joel Robles was named in goal while usual started Tim Howard was left on the bench. John Stones partnered skipper Phil Jagielka at the back with Seamus Coleman and Luke Garbutt deployed as the full backs. Gareth Barry had James McCarthy for company in a twin holding role in midfield with Tom Cleverley, Steven Naismith and Gerard Deulofeu (who scored against Arsenal a couple of seasons ago for Everton), operating behind lone striker Arouna Kone.
Former Chelsea frontman Romelu Lukaku, his Belgian compatriot Kevin Mirallas and England international Ross Barkley were all named on the bench.
