Morgan Schneiderlin said the prospect of playing for manager Louis van Gaal convinced him to join Manchester United.
Schneiderlin paid tribute to his former club Southampton for helping him to progress as a player and said he was excited about playing for "one of the best managers in the world".The 25-year-old, who joined the Reds for around £25million on the same day that World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger completed his move to Old Trafford, is convinced former Netherlands boss Van Gaal can make him an even better player.
He told MUTV: "He's a massive manager who has trained the best teams in the world and when I spoke with him, he wants big for Manchester United and this team.

"He made me understand how big the club is and the importance of doing the right thing and playing well, so for me it was a big part and I look forward to training with him and progressing, because I'm still young and I know I can improve here.
"I'm not a finished product. Every year I have the feeling that I have progressed, that I have learnt from every manager at Southampton which was an amazing time for me.
"I say thank you to all the Southampton people there because they helped me come through a lot of things and helped me to progress as a player.

"But now I know that I will get better because I'm going to play with better players and one of the best managers in the world."
Germany skipper Schweinsteiger, who has won 111 caps for his country, and Schneiderlin joined the rest of their new United team-mates - including Dutchman Memphis Depay and Italian defender Matteo Darmian - in flying out for a pre-season tour of the United States on Monday afternoon.

The France international said he was ready to accept the pressure which comes with playing for United and is looking forward to appearing at Old Trafford for the home team.
"It is a dream come true - it is the biggest club in the world," he added.
"I've worked all my life for it and today I am very happy and it is a proud day. It is the beginning of a new thing for me, a new adventure, a new step and more demanding, with more pressure - but I'm ready for that and can't wait to start playing."
He added: "It is amazing, I remember the first time I arrived at the stadium - straight away I said this is the best stadium that I've ever played in because of the atmosphere, because of the context, because of the name.
"I look forward to playing week in week out in front of thousands of people and I can't wait to get started.
"I had success last year with Southampton but hopefully now I will win every game with Manchester United."
