WENGER: PODOLSKI NEEDED TO PLAY
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed the reason he let forward Lukas Podolski join Galatasaray.
The Germany international completed a permanent move to Turkey last week after falling out of favour at the Emirates Stadium - even spending the second half of last season on loan at Inter Milan.
Wenger told Arsenal Player: "Lukas Podolski played in a position that is congested because we have so many wide players or players who can play wide. I felt that the opportunities for him to play with the stature a player has, he needed to go somewhere and play."
“I believe it’s a good move for him because if Lukas has confidence and trust from the manager, he has the potential and the talent. I was not sure I could give that to him here.”

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy expects the club to do the rest of its transfer business towards the end of the window after a flurry of early signings.
Spurs have moved quickly to improve last season's leaky defence, adding Toby Alderweireld, Kieran Trippier and Kevin Wimmer, with Levy playing a key role in bringing Alderweireld to the club from Atletico Madrid this week.
Levy said: “The window will be reasonably busy. We have already brought in four new players since the winter window and we’ve done deals for players who have now left.
“At the moment it is fairly relaxed. I would anticipate that, as the window goes on, the activity will happen in the last two weeks, but we are trying to do business early where we can.”
