Juve almost signed Ronaldo
A former Juventus director has claimed that the Bianconeri almost
signed Cristiano Ronaldo before he joined Manchester United in 2003.The Portuguese star moved to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon as a teenager 12 years ago after impressing during a pre-season friendly against Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
He went on to enjoy six trophy-laden years at United before sealing his dream £80m move to Real Madrid in 2009.
But ex-Juve chief Franco Ceravolo has revealed that it could have been a very different story for the four-time World Player of the Year.
"I wanted to take Cristiano Ronaldo for Juve, we were close to doing a deal," said Ceravolo.

Could Ozil be off to Italy?
Juventus are interested in a £29million bid for Mesut Ozil, according to reports in Italy on Friday morning.Tuttosport claim that the German playmaker is a dream target for the Bianconeri (although dream may be the operative word) as they look to sign a star fit to wear the legendary number 10 shirt.
Any bid would only come in the case of Paul Pogba or Arturo Vidal being sold, with the Turin club unable to justify such an outlay after spending nearly £50million on strikers Paulo Dybala, Simone Zaza and Mario Mandzukic.
The report speaks of Jose Mourinho's admiration for Ozil but alludes to Arsene Wenger's relationship with the player being far less strong.
Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also mentioned as interested parties.

Yesterday Iker Casillas to Porto was on the verge of being completed, according to Marca, but they now claim a problem has arisen.The Spanish goalkeeper would become Porto's best paid player should he join, but a problem has still arisen over his wages.
Porto were happy top pay him €10m over the course of his contract, but Casillas now says he wants that figure in gross terms, not net.
That leaves Porto with significantly more to pay, something they may struggle to do.

Fascinating reports coming out of Italy this morning.According to Tuttosport, Juventus are plotting a £29m bid for Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.
The Italian giants are set to have plenty of money to spend this summer with Carlos Tevez having already departed and Paul Pogba likely to follow.
Whether or not they can land the German international remains to be seen though.
Ozil joined Arsenal in a £42.5m deal in 2013 and is seen as a key part of Arsene Wenger's plans with the Gunners boss set to deploy him in a No.10 role.
Were Juve to make their interest formal, a significantly higher bid would surely be required.

Louis van Gaal wants to leave David De Gea and Robin van Persie
behind when Manchester United leave for their pre-season tour of the
USA.Van Gaal is keen for deals to sell both players to be concluded before he and his squad jet off on the two-and-a-half week trip on Monday.
Striker Van Persie is close to joining Turkish side Fenerbahce, although interest from Spanish duo Valencia and Atletico Madrid may delay a final decision. And United are hoping Iker Casillas' expected move to Porto will see La Liga giants Real Madrid make an acceptable offer for keeper De Gea.
United value De Gea at £35million - although with Real reluctant to pay that as the Spaniard has just a year left on his contract, a compromise figure is likely to be reached.

£45m for Sterling
Manchester City are set to make Liverpool a third - and this time genuinely final - bid of £40million for Raheem Sterling.Their new offer is likely to also include another £5m in add-ons, which City believe will get the deal done.
Liverpool have rejected two approaches from the Mancunian Blues for Sterling already this summer - including one last month that was billed as their last offer - but are keen to end the saga, which is threatening to split the Anfield dressing room.
Some of their squad are understood to be upset by the England forward’s belligerence in trying to force through a transfer.
They privately hope he will be sold and are interested to see which players the club brings in as replacements.

It's all kicking off in the transfer window today.Matteo Darmian is due to arrive in England for a medical with Manchester United - Torino's manager all but confirmed the move yesterday and we're now waiting for the formalities to be completed.
Manchester City, meanwhile, have made a third and final offer for Raheem Sterling. We could find out today whether or not Liverpool accept the bid, which is £40m plus £5m in add-ons.
Asmir Begovic's move to Premier League champions Chelsea is set to go through, Stoke will receive £8m for the goalkeeper.
Louis van Gaal is also hoping to be rid of Robin van Persie and David de Gea by Monday, so expect news on their transfers between now and the end of the weekend.
